SPECIALISTS

Dr. Eduardo Ramacciotti – Vascular Surgeon, Chair of the Board of the Science® Valley Research Institute, Tenured (Livre-Docente) Professor at FMRP-USP

Extensive experience with Institutional Review Boards and regulatory frameworks, including Good Clinical Practice (GCP), ICH, NIH, ANVISA, EMEA, and the FDA.

Graduated in Medicine from FMRP–USP, where he also completed his medical residency in General Surgery and Vascular Surgery. He holds a Master’s degree from the Paulista School of Medicine and a PhD from the University of São Paulo, with postdoctoral training at the University of Michigan. He has served as a visiting professor of Thrombosis and Hemostasis at Loyola University Chicago. He is a tenured (Livre-Docente) professor at USP and a graduate program advisor in Health Sciences at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Santa Casa de São Paulo.

Author of 119 peer-reviewed scientific articles and four book chapters, with significant oral presentations at major international medical meetings. He has delivered more than 500 lectures on thrombosis worldwide.

In 2009, he received an award in the United States for innovative research in the vascular field related to venous thrombosis and the identification of a novel biomarker. In the same year, he was also honored with the International Union of Angiology Global Award for Best Research of the Year.

In 2020, he received the Kakkar Family Award from the International Union of Angiology, recognizing him as one of the world’s leading researchers in venous thromboembolism.

He has extensive experience in more than 95 international multicenter clinical trials, covering all phases of clinical research, including study design, regulatory approval processes, data analysis, and publication. This includes clinical trials that changed global clinical practice during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He is currently leading global cardiovascular studies focused on LDL reduction for the prevention of myocardial infarction, stroke, and vascular death using RNA interference technologies, as well as the development of innovative drugs for the treatment of lower-limb varicose veins, new anticoagulants, and novel devices for the treatment of pulmonary embolism.

Dr. André Luiz Malavasi Longo de Oliveira

Gynecologist, graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (FMUSP), with medical residency training in Gynecology and Obstetrics at the same institution. He holds a Master’s degree from the University of São Paulo, with research focused on thrombophilias and venous thromboembolism during pregnancy. He earned his PhD from the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Santa Casa de São Paulo, with research centered on anticoagulation in the context of gynecologic oncologic surgery (VALERIA Study).

He serves as principal investigator in the CLARA and GLADE studies, which investigate the use of estradiol and gestrinone hormonal implants.

Dr. Andréia Castanheiro da Costa

Dermatologist, trained at the FMABC University Center, with professional practice at São Camilo University Center and Science Valley Hospital Cristóvão da Gama S.A. She graduated in Medicine from the ABC School of Medicine in 2000 and has been a board-certified dermatologist since 2003 by the Brazilian Society of Dermatology, with subspecialty training in Dermatologic Surgery at FMABC.

She is currently an attending physician at the Psoriasis and Hidradenitis Suppurativa Outpatient Clinic of the Dermatology Department at the ABC School of Medicine, a master’s degree candidate at the same institution, and Clinical Director of the CUFMABC Outpatient Clinics.

She also serves as a faculty member of the Medical School at São Camilo University Center and regularly participates as a speaker in postgraduate courses, symposia, and specialty workshops.

She develops and participates in training programs for primary healthcare professionals and has been actively involved in clinical research since 2006, serving as both sub-investigator and principal investigator at the FMABC Research Centers and at Science Valley – Hospital Cristóvão da Gama S.A. At the latter, she also acts as a consultant in the development of investigator-initiated dermatology projects.

Dr. Elaine Maria Borges Mancilha, MD, PhD

Hematologist, PhD in Medicine from the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), where she conducted research on iron overload in recipients of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. She completed medical residency training in Internal Medicine and Hematology and has extensive experience in onco-hematology, hemoglobinopathies, and bone marrow transplantation.

She has worked at leading referral hospitals, including Hospital Alemão Oswaldo Cruz, Hospital Nove de Julho, and Casa de Saúde Santa Marcelina, and completed a visiting physician fellowship at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in the United States.

She currently serves as Director of the Division of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Support at Hospital Guilherme Álvaro, in Santos, São Paulo, where she oversees Hematology services and chairs the Hemotherapy Advisory Committee. She is also a faculty member of the School of Medicine at the University of Ribeirão Preto (UNAERP) and Coordinator of Hematology and Onco-Hematology at Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Santos, where she is actively involved in the implementation of the bone marrow transplant service and in the development of regional research projects in hematologic diseases.

As a researcher, she acts as principal investigator in several international clinical trials in the areas of multiple myeloma, myelodysplastic syndromes, and reversal of factor Xa inhibitors. She has authored publications in national and international peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and has received scientific awards, including the Scientific Contribution Award in Hemophilia (2023).

In addition to her academic, clinical, and research activities, she is actively engaged in scientific communication and public awareness campaigns promoting blood donation and bone marrow transplantation, contributing significantly to the advancement of hematology in the Baixada Santista and Vale do Ribeira regions.

 

Dr. José Eduardo Vasconcelos Fernandes, MD

Cardiologist, graduated in Medicine from Santa Casa de São Paulo, where he also completed his medical residency. He serves as a principal investigator (PI) in cardiology clinical trials with a focus on hemodynamics conducted at Santa Casa de São Paulo. He is also a principal investigator in clinical studies affiliated with Science Valley and Hospital e Maternidade Dr. Christóvão da Gama.

Dr. Rogério Krakauert, MD

Cardiologist, graduated in Medicine from Santa Casa de São Paulo, where he also completed his medical residency. He serves as a principal investigator (PI) in cardiology clinical trials with a focus on hemodynamics conducted at Santa Casa de São Paulo. He is also a principal investigator in clinical studies affiliated with Science Valley and Hospital e Maternidade Dr. Christóvão da Gama.

Additionally, he acts as a recruiting physician in clinical studies on peripheral arterial disease and atrial fibrillation conducted at the Emergency Department of Santa Casa de São Paulo, where he has held the position of shift supervisor since 1994.

He participates in Advisory Boards for the pharmaceutical company Althaia.
